Rail and Cruise Journey to the North
The excitement of our Railways of the Rockies tour is combined with a journey of discovery on a 7-night cruise to the edge of the Arctic. Departing from Vancouver, the comfortable cruise ship travels northward along the Canadian Pacific coastline into the fjords and inlets of Alaska. The forested shores and towering glaciers provide an ever-changing landscape for the voyage. Shore excursions are available at anchor in Icy Point Strait and the ports of call in Juneau and Ketchikan Alaska before returning to the port of Vancouver.
Day 1:Â ARRIVAL IN CALGARY
Arrive at Calgary International Airport and transferÂ
independently to your centrally-located hotel. AfterÂ
a check-in with your tour director, the remainder ofÂ
the day is at leisure. Explore the downtown core, orÂ
ascend the Calgary Tower for an unforgettable view of the city andÂ
surrounding grasslands beyond its distant borders.
Day 2:Â CALGARYÂ
TO BANFFWe begin the day with a city tour of Calgary before departing the city west along the Trans-Canada Highway into the rolling foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The majestic peaks of the Canadian Rockies soon fill the horizon as we approach Banff National Park, the first of several in the Canadian national park system. We soon arrive in the charming resort town of Banff and enjoy a tour of the town site. Overnight in Banff. Full breakfast included.
Day 3:Â
BANFFThe entire day is at leisure to explore Banff and browse through the many boutiques and specialty shops along Banff Avenue. You may choose to take and optional 12-minute helicopter sightseeing tour over the Three Sisters Peak, revealing the beauty of the mountains and the Spray Valley. You may also decide to take an optional ride on the Banff Gondola for a glorious view of the town and the magnificent Bow River Valley. Overnight in Banff. Full breakfast included.
Day 4:Â
BANFF TO JASPERToday after breakfast we depart for Jasper, the jewel of Jasper National Park. En route we stop to tour to the Columbia Icefield. The tour starts with a visit to the turquoise waters and spectacular glacier of Lake Louise, the jewel of the Rockies. From the unsurpassed beauty of Lake Louise we enter a rugged wilderness as we travel up the world famous Icefields Parkway. At the spectacular Columbia Icefield we board a Ice Explorer that will take us onto the surface of the ancient Athabasca Glacier. Arriving in Jasper, the remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 5:Â
VIA RAIL TO VANCOUVERThis afternoon we board VIA Rail’s Canadian train and depart west towards the seaside metropolis of Vancouver. Along the way we pass the steep slopes and plunging valleys of the Rockies, the high plains of the British Columbia interior and travel through the tunnels and chasms carved out of the living rock over a century ago. The gentle pitch and sway of the cars provide a soothing ride for our overnight journey. Overnight on board VIA Rail. Breakfast (hotel) and dinner (VIA Rail) included.
Day 6:Â
VANCOUVERArriving in Vancouver in the morning, we disembark the train and depart on a fascinating city tour of Vancouver. Highlights include the towering trees of Stanley Park, English Bay, the historic laneways of Gastown, exotic Chinatown and much more. We also enjoy a visit to Capilano Suspension Bridge park and marvel at this feat of engineering set amongst the towering trees of the protected parklands. The afternoon and evening are free to further explore this pedestrian-friendly city. Overnight in Vancouver. Breakfast (VIA Rail) included.

PORT OF VANCOUVER / ALASKANÂ CRUISEToday you check out of your hotel and transfer to the Vancouver cruise terminal where you board the Celebrity Infinity and are welcomed by the crew who will be your hosts for the next 7 nights. Familiarize yourself with amenities of the ship and watch the sun set over the water from the wide decks of this magnificent craft. The ship weighs anchor and sets sail this afternoon for one of the most famously beautiful passages in all the world. Overnight on board the Celebrity Infinity. Full breakfast, dinner included.Â
Day 8:Â
INSIDE PASSAGEEnjoy the fantastic scenery as we continue to cruise through the inside passage. Just beyond the deck rails, the gems of Alaska are laid open in a spellbinding vista, including rainforests, glaciers, fjords and white-capped peaks. Along the way it is common to view whales and sea lions at play along the coastlines as well as a near countless assortment of marine bird life. Overnight on board the Celebrity Infinity. Day 9:Â
ICY POINT STRAITEighty kilometres west of Juneau and at the mouth of Glacier Bay, lies the historic Icy Strait Point. Travelers have the unique opportunity to experience Tlingit culture, superior wildlife viewing opportunities and years of Alaskan history on optional excursions offered by Celebrity Cruises. Watch the sun set against the dramatic landscape as the ship anchors off the point for the night. Overnight on board the Celebrity Infinity. Full board included.
Day 10:Â
HUBBARD GLACIERHubbard Glacier is the one glacier in the world that does not move at a glacial pace. In 1986, Hubbard Glacier - the largest tidewater glacier on the North American continent - moved an average of just under 2 metres per hour. Keep a watchful eye as the ship sails through the Yakutat Bay as the geological history unfolds before you. Overnight on board the Celebrity Infinity. Full board included.
Day 11:Â
PORT OF JUNEAUWhere the legacy of the tin pan prospector meets eco-adventure tourism of tomorrow would be a good way to describe the charms of Alaska\'s capital city. Here the pioneering spirit lives on in an interesting mix of cosmopolitan chic and frontier ruggedness. There are many places to visit in port including Alaska State Museum and its exquisite collection of Russian Orthodox and Gold Rush relics, or take advantage of optional excursions offered by Celebrity Cruises. Day 12:Â
PORT OF JUNEAUToday you cruise down the coast to arrive in the town of Ketchikan - the ancestral home of the Tlingit tribe. This community with strong ties to its aboriginal past is also the departure point for Celebrity Cruise’s optional seaplane excursions into the Misty Fjords National Monument and its 8 900 km2 of pristine wilderness. Ketchikan also boasts the world\'s largest collection of totem poles you can explore independently, or you may visit the Saxman Native Village, Totem Bight and Totem Heritage Center. INSIDE PASSAGEToday the ship slowly retraces its voyage along the Alaskan and British Columbia coastlines. Watch how the landscape slowly and subtly changes as you descend into the more southern and warmer climate of the Pacific Northwest temperate area. Overnight on board the Celebrity Infinity. PORT OF VANCOUVER / END OF TOUREarly this morning, after breakfast, you arrive in the port of Vancouver and disembark the Celebrity Infinity. You transfer independently to Vancouver International Airport in time to check in for your return flight. Breakfast included.
