Days 1-2 Kansas City, Missouri - Lawrence, Kansas

Days 3-4 Lawrence - Cottonwood Falls

to Cottonwood Falls. To experience the majesty and wonder of the Flint

Day 5 Cottonwood Falls - Council Grove - Salina - Lucas - Wilson
(318mls). Depart the Flint Hills by driving north on the Depart the Flint
Hills by driving north on the Flint Hills Scenic Byway to Council Grove.
The Kaw Mission State Historic Site features exhibits on the history and
culture of the Kaw and the Santa Fe Trail. Continue to Salina and the
Rolling Hills Zoo. En route to Lucas you will drive the 16-mile long Post
Rock Scenic byway
that winds over and through the beautiful Smoky Hills and across the Wilson
Lake Dam offering spectacular hilltop views. The Grassroots Art Center
exhibits over 20 examples of unique self-taught, outsider art environments
from across the state of Kansas. The Garden of Eden is Internationally
known as a prime example of the Grassroots Art genre.

Days 6-7 Wilson - Ellsworth - Great Bend - Larned - Dodge City
(240mls) Head southeast to Ellsworth, a town that was once known as the
wickedest cowtown in the West is your next stop. Visitors can find their
own part of the Old West in the antique and specialty shops in
downtown Ellsworth. Continue southwest toward Great Bend to Cheyenne Bottoms
Wildlife Management Area, home to 320 bird species. Further down the road
is Larned -- the midway point on the Santa Fe Trail
and home to Fort Larned National Historic Site, a major Santa Fe Trail
and Indian Wars outpost. The Santa Fe Trail Center museum tells the story
of the people who braved their way along this historic route. And then
it's
"Welcome to the most famous of the cowtowns" - Dodge City. From
1875 to 1886, over 5,000,000 cattle were driven up the Western Trail from
Texas to Dodge City.

Days 8-9 Dodge City - Hutchinson - Wichita
(288mls) Depart for Hutchinson and visit the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space
Center, a world-class space museum affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.
After stops in the quaint Amish village of Yoder and Kechi, the antique
capitol of Kansas the evening will find you in
Wichita. The Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper Opera House is located on
a working cattle ranch, 15-miles east of Wichita. Plan for this all
you can eat BBQ dinner and show. Arrive early to enjoy the Hopalong
Cassidy Museum and the horse drawn wagon rides.

Days 10-11 Wichita - Caldwell - Oklahoma City
(256mls) Visit Caldwell, one of Kansas' original cowtowns located on the
Chisholm Trail. Head south into Oklahoma and Oklahoma City. Visit the
Oklahoma City National Memorial and Memorial Museum and the
Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Spend an evening in Bricktown, Oklahoma City's
renovated warehouse district one block east of downtown. Enjoy a cowboy-sized
breakfast at Cattleman's Cafe in historic Stockyards City before travelling
to Oklahoma City.

Day 12 Oklahoma City - Lawton
(141mls) Southwest of Oklahoma City is the Wichita Mountains which were
formed some 300 million years ago. Spend today exploring the 60,000-acre
National Wildlife Refuge, home to free range buffalo, Texas
longhorn cattle, prairie dog town, elk, and deer. Drive to the summit
of Mt. Scott for breathtaking views of the Wichita range. At the base
of the ancient Wichita Mountains is Fort Sill Army Post. See the grave
of
Geronimo and Chiefs Knoll cemetery where several Cheyenne, Comanche,
Kiowa, and Apache chiefs are buried.

Day 13 Lawton - Route 66 - Tulsa
(309mls) Today travel the Main Street of America Route 66
East to Tulsa. Along the way discover the mom-and-pop roadside diners,
old fashioned service stations, and motor courts.

Day 14 Tulsa
Discover Tulsa's Downtown. Once the oil-producing capital of the nation,
the evidence of the citys riches is clear.
Day 15 Tulsa Area Daytrip
Tahlequah is the end of the Trail of Tears for the eastern Cherokees,
and the capital of the Cherokee Nation. At the Cherokee Heritage Center
explore the Cherokee National Museum. Travel to Fort Gibson, the first
Army post in the Indian Territory, before returning to Tulsa.
Days 16-17 Tulsa - Bartlesville - Fort Scott
(440mls) Pawhuska is the Capital of the Osage Nation. The Osage became
the richest people per capita in the world during the Oil Boom of the
1920s, and their fascinating history is chronicled in the Osage Tribal
Museum. The afternoon takes you back into Kansas and to Fort Scott National
Historic Site, a restored 1842 frontier military fort administered by
the National Park Service.
