Full Itinerary:

Day 1 UK to Kansas City to Lawrence
(40mls) Depart the UK by wide-bodied jet to Kansas City, Missouri (not included). On arrival collect your car (not included see pages 42 – 45) and continue to Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence played a crucial role in
Kansas’ history as headquarters for the “free-state” movement. It was during this time that Kansas became known as “Bleeding Kansas”. Lawrence, now a thriving and unique community rates among the top fifteen in “The 100 Best Small Arts Towns in America”.

Day 2 Lawrence - Olathe - Overland Park - Kansas City - Lawrence
(100mls) A day-trip takes you to Olathe, Overland Park, and Kansas City. Fill the day visiting the Whittaker Flower Farm, the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, the Mahaffie Farmstead, the Arabia Steamboat
Museum, and The New Theatre Restaurant.

Days 3-4 Lawrence - Council Grove - Flint Hills - Cottonwood Falls
(100mls) The 1825 treaty signed in Council Grove with the Osage Indians ensured safe travel to this “Prairie Eden.” Today, the entire town of Council Grove has been designated a National Historic Landmark and is rich with Santa Fe Trail sites. The Flint Hills Scenic Byway takes you to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. In Cottonwood Falls travellers can climb aboard the Prairie Drifter for an unforgettable sunset tour into the Flint Hills.

Day 5 Flint Hills - McPherson - Hutchinson
(103mls) Follow the Santa Fe Trail to McPherson / Canton to the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, home to roaming herds of bison and elk. Continue southwest to Hutchinson. The Kansas Cosmosphere & Space Center is a world-renowned space museum. The Cosmosphere is home to the actual Apollo 13 command module Odyssey, and SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. The newest Kansas attraction is Kansas Underground Salt Museum
(scheduled to open fall summer 2005.)

Day 6 Hutchinson - Lindsborg - Abilene - Ellsworth – Wilson
(105mls) Head north to experience Sweden in Kansas at Lindsborg, a community that is filled with unique shops, restaurants, museums, art galleries/working art studios, and cultural/ethnic events. Visit the boyhood home of President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Abilene; hike, bike and horseback ride on the Horse Thief and Prairie Trails at Kanapolis Lake; feel like a cowboy / cowgirl in Ellsworth, a town that was once known as,
"the wickedest cowtown in the West".
Overnight: Historic Midland Hotel.

Days 7-8 Wilson - Lucas - Great Bend - Fort Larned - Dodge City
(178mls) Before heading south for the day your morning begins north to Lucas on the 16-mile long Post Rock Scenic byway that winds over and through the beautiful Smoky Hills and across the Wilson Lake Dam offering spectacular hilltop views. In Lucas visit The Grassroots Art Center. The Garden of Eden is internationally known as a prime example of the Grassroots Art genre. Now head south toward Great Bend to Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Management Area, home to 320 bird species. Next is Larned - the midway point on the Santa Fe Trail and home to Fort Larned National Historic Site, a major Santa Fe Trail and Indian Wars outpost. And then it's "Welcome to the most famous of the cowtowns" - Dodge City.

Days 9-10 Dodge City - Kenton, Oklahoma
(190mls) Southwest from Dodge City see the newest type of farming operation in Kansas: a wind farm, an impressive collection of 170 wind towers. Cross the state line of Kansas into Oklahoma and head to the
Hitching Post Working Ranch and Lodge in Kenton. Enjoy a full day/night on a working ranch. Activities can include horseback riding, hiking etc.

Day 11 Kenton - Boise City - Las Vegas, New Mexico
(225mls) Visit the Cimarron Heritage Center in Boise City and Fort Union National Monument. In New Mexico…the town of Las Vegas began as a Santa Fe Trail town in 1835. Today, Las Vegas has more than 900 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places, often referred to as an outdoor museum.

Days 12-14 Las Vegas - Santa Fe
(70mls) On the final leg of the journey into Santa Fe, stop and explore the Native American history at Pecos National Monument. Kozlowski's Stage Station was a trading ranch and a stage station on the Santa Fe Trail and it was known for its excellent food. The Plaza in Santa Fe was the traditional end of the Santa Fe Trail for westbound travellers. Explore The Palace of The Governors, the Museum of Fine Arts, The Georgia
O'Keeffe Museum and the hundreds of unique boutique shops.

Days 15-16 Santa Fe - Albuquerque
(65mls) Albuquerque was a colonial farming village and military outpost along the famed Camino Real between Chihuahua and Santa Fe. The village now houses the Historic Old Town, where the Villa of Albuquerque was founded in 1706 and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the most popular ballooning event in the world. Visit The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Albuquerque Museum of Art & History, or take an
excursion to Ácoma Pueblo.

Day 17 Albuquerque - UK
Today your journey ends at Albuquerque International Airport where you return your car for your flight home.
