Itinerary:


Day 1: Arrive in Edmonton
Fly from your home to Edmonton, Alberta`s capital, and one of the popular cities in Canada to visit. This evening you will enjoy a welcome dinner with the rest of your tour group.


Overnight: Fantasyland Hotel (Dinner)


Day 2: Edmonton - Peace River
Travel north and watch the scenery change from prairie grasslands to lakes and boreal forests. Arrive in the Mighty Peace Country and check in to the hotel. The rest of the evening is at your leisure.


Overnight: Sawridge Inn (Breakfast)


Day 3: Peace River - Hay River
Today cross the 60th Parallel Border Crossing into the Northwest Territories, a land that is basically untouched. Travel the highway dubbed the Waterfalls Route. Stop at Twin Falls Gorge Territorial Park and view the breathtaking Alexandra Falls from lookouts. Arrive in the town of Hay River, the home of the Great Slave fishing fleet and enjoy a Heritage dinner at the hotel.


Overnight: Ptarmigan Inn (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 4: Hay River
Experience the region today on a ‘Walk in my Moccasins’ tour, with cultural and interpretive information along with spectacular scenery. Experience a fire feeding ceremony and a drum show. Take of tour of the Hay River Reserve including the Dene Cultural Institute, and learn the history and traditions of the local people.


Overnight: Ptarmigan Inn (Breakfast, Lunch)


Day 5: Hay River - Yellowknife
Say goodbye to Hay River and cross the mighty Mackenzie River, travel along the Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary. Be sure to keep a watchful eye out for the free-roaming wood bison often wandering near the roadside. Arrive in Yellowknife, situated on the shores of Great Slave Lake and check into the hotel for a 3 night stay.

Day 6: Summer Solstice
Today is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Stay up all day and enjoy the community activities and Aboriginal Days, experiencing the true flavour of this northern community. Please note: many of the activities are not confirmed until closer to the solstice. A local guide joins us for a city and gallery tour of the diamond capital of Yellowknife. Learn about the culture, people and history of the area. Tour a mixture of traditional and non-traditional galleries that include Dene art, carvings and tufting, birchwood, glass recyclers and the works of local artists who produce jewelry. Spend time in Old Town and the famous Ragged Ass Road.

Day 7: Yellowknife
Visit the Legislative Assembly Building and the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, a museum that chronicles Aboriginal and European history in the North and displays environmental exhibits. This afternoon, board smaller boats with local guides for an interpretive tour of the harbour and Great Slave Lake, including a traditional Northern Fish Fry dinner, a truly remarkable local experience.

Day 8: Yellowknife - High Level
Depart Yellowknife and again cross the 60th Parallel and enter Alberta, stopping at Lady Evelyn Falls, a giant curtain of water that spills over a limestone sill. A longer day of travel before arriving in High Level often referred to as the Gateway to the South.


Overnight: Best Western Plus Mirage Hotel (Breakfast)


Day 9: High Level - Grande Prairie
This morning, visit The Northern Trading Post which hosts a collection of over 1600 food and medicine containers, some dating back to the late 1800’s, along with an extensive photo collection. If time permits, also visit the Mackenzie Crossroad Museum and Visitors Centre. Then continue southward to Peace Country. Learn the history and prehistory of Grande Prairie and the Peace River Region at the Grande Prairie Museum.

Day 10: Grande Prairie - Edmonton
Tonight we overnight in Edmonton. Enjoy a farewell dinner with the group.

Day 11: Depart Edmonton
It’s homeward bound today with memories of a vast countryside and the fine hospitality that comes from living in the Northwest Territories with lasting memories of the land of the midnight sun!
