Sri Lanka is a lush, tropical island paradise, known to Arab traders as Serendib – hence "serendipity", meaning discovery by happy accident. Set in the Indian Ocean in South Asia, the tropical island nation of Sri Lanka has a history dating back to the birth of time. It is a place where the original soul of Buddhism still flourishes and where nature’s beauty remains abundant and un-spoilt.


There are 8 world heritage sites in Sri Lanka. The 3 ancient and magnificent cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya were inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1982 followed by Galle, Kandy, and the Sinharaja Forest Reserve in 1988. The Golden Temple of Dambulla in 1991 and finally the Central highlandswereaddedin2010. These places of historical and natural significance are not to be missed for any visitor to Sri Lanka.


Having a history marked by four centuries of colonial rule, the country still manages to safeguard remnants from the past in their original grandeur. Some of them are renowned historic sites are the Galle Fort built originally by the Portuguese, Colombo Harbor and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa all confirm Sri Lanka’s ancient and colorful past. The rock temple of the Buddha, Gal Vihara is one of the finest examples of the religious heritage. Temples play an important part in everyday life and a visit to one should be a must for all visitors.

Itinerary:
Day 01 : Airport/ Habarana / Minneriya / Habarana Dinner
Arrive at Colombo Bandaranaike Airport.


Our airport representative will meet you on arrival and introduce you to the chauffeur guide who will accompany you throughout the tour. Transfer to accommodation in Cinnamon Lodge and check-in to the hotel.
(Private Transfer – approximate driving duration 3 ½ - 4 hours)


In the afternoon you will be proceed on a jeep safari to visit the Minneriya National Park - The park is famous for being the best place in Sri Lanka to get close to free-ranging elephants. (Approximate drive duration: 30 minutes)


On completion, return to the hotel and relax.

Day 02: Habarana / Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa / Habarana (Breakfast & Dinner)
After an early breakfast, proceed to Sigiriya and hike the majestic Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
(Approximate drive duration 30 minutes)
Built by an obsessed monarch in the 5th century, Sigiriya or Lion Rock is an astonishing feat of engineering and construction. Set in the cultural heart of Sri Lanka, Sigiriya rises a sheer 200 meters above a forested plain, its flattened summit sloping gently. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.
Sigiriya is Asia’s best-preserved city of the first millennium, showing complex urban planning around the base of the
rock, combined with sophisticated engineering and irrigation skills in the palace perched on the summit.


Thereafter proceed to Polonnaruwa ancient city. (Approximate drive duration 1 hour)
The architect of this lovely city is known to be King Parakrama Bahu - The Great. The remains of the Royal Citadel council chamber, prince’s bathing pool and the Gal Vihare, a stone temple with its colossal sculptures of the Buddha in a quiet grove of trees as well as the still-functioning Parakrama Samudra, a man-made reservoir, larger than our Colombo harbor, are on easy distance from each other. The new museum has an excellent scale model of the ancient city as it was.


On completion, return to the hotel and relax.

Day 03: Habarana / Anuradhapura / Habarana (Breakfast & Dinner)
After breakfast start trip to Anuradhapura ancient city
(Approximate drive duration from Habarana to Anuradhapura: 01 ½ hours)
Visit the ruins of the first capital founded in the 05th century BC. Here is found the largest number of ancient monuments of a great civilization. Buddhism found its first real home in Sri Lanka at Anuradhapura, and it thus contains some of Sri Lankan Buddhism’s most secret sights, The “Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura, planted from a cutting from the original “Bo Tree” under which the Buddha received enlightenment, continue to draw thousands of Buddhist pilgrims from around the world. The pillars of the brazen palace which once had nine stories, the image of the Samadhi Buddha which is one of the finest pieces of Buddhists sculpture, the twin ponds, guard-stones, and the moonstones are amazing remains of a great civilization. There are also monuments such as Ruwanveli Seya Dagoba with its famous elephant wall from the 2nd Century B.C. and the Thuparama Dagoba from the 3rd Century B.C.

Day 04: Habarana / Dambulla / Kandy (Breakfast & Dinner)
After breakfast, proceed to Kandy En-route visit the Dambulla Cave temple.
(Approximate drive duration 30 minutes)
. Dambulla Cave Temple is a vast isolated rock mass and it was here that king Valagambahu took refuge in the 01st century B.C. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. Dambulla is a world heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceiling found here are over 2000 years old and is the largest area of painting found in the world. The caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters.


On completion, proceed to Kandy en-route Visit Matale spice gardens.
Matale is famous for its batik production and spice gardens. Batik has been an ancient art of painting cloth and today Sri Lanka is among the world leaders in the design of batik. Batik galleries and factories offer batik from simple single-colored designs to intricate multi-colored masterpieces. Visit a Batik Factory and see the various phases of batik production. You would also visit a Spice Garden in Matale. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka's celebrated exports. Spices are mostly grown in home gardens (as a home industry) and used not only to flavor food but also for medicine and cosmetics.


On completion, transfer to Kandy and relax at the hotel.

Day 5: Kandy/ Nuwara Eliya (Breakfast & Dinner)
Monday After breakfast you will be Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. It is located in the royal palace complex which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple.


On completion, Peradeniya Royal botanical Garden.
The Royal Botanical Gardens at ‘Peradeniya’ is where you could treat your eyes to an amazing, wide, and rare collection of tropical and temperate, exotic and indigenous flora, and an orchid house with the largest collection in Asia.


Enjoy a city tour of Kandy afterward and then return to the hotel.

Day 6: Kandy/ Nuwara Eliya / Ella (Breakfast & Dinner)
After breakfast depart for Nuwara Eliya (approx. transfer time 2.5 - 3 hours) and enjoy a city tour around the city.


On completion, you will be transferred to Nanu Oya railway station and start Sri Lanka’s most scenic train ride Nanu to Ella.

On completion, return to the hotel and relax.

Day 8: Ella / Udawalawa / Yala (Breakfast & Dinner)
Today after breakfast you will be transferred to Udawalawa (Approx. transfer time 2 hours).
Udawalawa National park is located approximately 200 km southeast of Colombo city and is a major eco-tourism destination in Sri Lanka. The 30,821 hectares dry zone game park has an annual rainfall of 1524 mm and an average temperature of 29.4°C. It is most famous for the many elephants that live there (about 400 in total). During a visit, it is not unusual to see whole herds of adults and young elephants feeding or bathing and playing in the water! In addition to this main attraction, the park is home to many water buffalo, water monitor lizards, sambar deer, monkeys, and the occasional leopard, as well as being an exciting location for bird enthusiasts.


On completion transfer to Yala and relax at the hotel.

Day 9: Yala National Park Safari (Breakfast & Dinner)
In the early morning, your guide and the Safari jeep will be at the hotel and you will be transferred to Yala National park.

Yala National Park is a widely known Sri Lankan forest reserve which is located in the southeast part of the island. It is prominent among the other national parks due to the fact that it has the highest density of leopards.


The park is an internationally recognized wildlife preservation, which is about 309 km away from Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Though the reserve is spread in about 1,259 square km of land, a mere 141 square km block is open for the public.
Yala is one of the best spots available for wildlife observers and photographers. Apart from the wildlife, the park consists of a range of vegetation from grassland to dense jungle with an abundance of water streams, lagoons, and lakes. Apart from the highest concentration of leopards, the park contains a number of animals including Asian elephants, crocodiles, wild boar, water buffalo, and grey langurs. Birdlife includes White-bellied sea eagles in parklands and Waders, Painted storks, and Black-necked stork in the wetlands. Sirkeer Malkoha and Sri Lanka Jungle flow are a few of the Sri Lankan endemic species that can be found in Yala.

Day 10: Yala/ Galle (Breakfast & Dinner)
Today after breakfast you will be transferred to your beach Resort (Approx. transfer time 2 ½ hours),

Prior to checking into the hotel, you can do a City tour of the Galle.
Galle is a coastal town where the Dutch presence is still visible. Galle was an ancient port (said to be the legendary Tarshish of the Bible), and our first international commerce and trade centre. Today, Galle is the bustling provincial capital and administrative centre of the south. It is famous for its lovely Unawatuna Bay, where the sea is reef protected and therefore safe for swimming. The old Dutch “Star Fort” (a World Heritage Site) covering 36 hectares, the well-preserved Groote Kerk (Dutch Church), Dutch Government House, the New Oriental Hotel (built-in 1684) old bell tower, and a tide-based Sewage-System, also introduced by the Dutch. In Galle, they still make the Dutch ‘pillow lace and do fine ebony carving and gem polishing. On completion return to the hotel.

Today morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Colombo (Approx. drive duration 2 ½ hours).


Thereafter you can do a Colombo city tour by Tuk-Tuk with street food tasting. Watch and enjoy as majestic Colombo opens up to and the teaming streets burst with busy markets trading textiles, spices, crafts, and local food. See all the action Colombo has to offer as the locals begin their working days with beaming smiles, traffic, and blissful organized chaos!


On completion return to the hotel and relax.
