They may look a little rundown in places, but this adds to their charm. Stop at Stone Mountain Provincial Park and take a short hike to beautiful upland lakes before driving over the Summit Pass, at 1295m this is the highest summit on the Alaska Highway. Continue to Liard Hot Springs. 199 miles to Liard Hot Springs. If you have a sweet tooth, stop at Tetsa River Lodge for their famous cinnamon buns. North Rockies Lodge situated on the stunning Muncho Lake offers flightseeing trips of the Northern Rockies.

➤Welcome to the Yukon Territory. The name itself just conjures up images of sparse unexplored wilderness and untamed rivers and with the highest mountains in Canada, the scenery will no doubt be as spectacular as you imagine it to be. Also, it is one of the few places in the world that wearing sunglasses at 11pm is perfectly normal in the summer months. You will have covered a LOT of miles recently, so we suggest taking a day off and spend the day in the likeable and relaxed Whitehorse. The capital of the Yukon has enough about it to keep you entertained for the day from open air lunchtime concerts to historic site walking tours. 278 miles to Whitehorse. Take a break at Emerald Lake, popular for its almost aqua-like coloured water. Visit the SS Klondike, one of only two surviving paddle steamers in the Yukon. See a full sized woolly mammoth skeleton at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Center and enjoy a beer and/or a tour of the very popular Yukon Brewing Co. Visit the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre for its First Nations history.

Enjoy some time in this great wilderness area and try your hand at white water rafting along the Dease River. Please note that sections of the Stewart-Cassiar are non-paved highway. Sun 17 May 26
➤Leave Stewart and rejoin the main Stewart-Cassiar highway heading south with the majestic Coast Range mountains off to your right and follow the road as it passes through swaths of wild forests and lakes. Join the Yellowhead Highway heading west as it follows the winding and majestic Skeena River all the way to the coastal town of Prince Rupert ringed by mountains and a beautiful fjord-like coastline. 282 miles to Prince Rupert. Stop in Gitanyow to see its awesome totem poles including the 140-year-old Hole in the Sky totem pole.
