Great Apes Tour of Uganda

Day 1: Arrival Entebbe
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda and after finalizing the formalities, you shall be welcomed by your guide, who will then drive you to your hotel.

Day 2: Drive to Kibale National Park/Port Fortal
After breakfast, you will drive to Kibale National Park, along the way you will pass many tea plantations. You have the opportunity to visit a tea plantation. On the way you stop in Fort Portal. In the afternoon you will arrive at your accommodation. You may have a walk to the Top of the world with it’s a mazing views of the crater lakes or have a Bicycle safari through Tea plantations and interact with the Tea pickers.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking, Bigodi Swamp Walk
Today you will track the most famous inhabitants of Kibale National Park, the chimpanzees. With over 1,450 individuals protected within the park, Kibale forest is home to the largest number of the endangered chimpanzees in Uganda, as well as the threatened red colobus monkey and the rare L’Hoest’s monkey. The forest has one of the highest diversity and density of primates in Africa totaling 13 species including the black and white colobus, blue monkey and grey-cheeked mangabey, red tailed monkey, bush babies and pottos. In the afternoon after tracking, you have the opportunity for a guided walk through the swamps of Bigodi. After the fascinating walk you have the choice of relaxing in the accommodation or community walk in a village nearby. Alternatively, you can visit a school in the local community, talk to the students and teachers and participate in the lessons.

Day 4: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast you will drive through the Kasenda Crater lake area to the world-famous Queen Elizabeth National Park, crossing the equator along the way. You shall have an evening game drive.

Day 5: Game Drive, Boat Ride on the Kazinga Channel
Have an Early Morning Game Drive. There are over 100 mammal species that include Lions, Hippos, Buffaloes, Leopard, Spotted Hyena, Elephants and the elusive Giant Forest Hog in this park. The Primates include Chimps, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Blue, Black faced Red Colobus, and Red tailed monkeys and Olive Baboons. Return to the Lodge. In the afternoon, you shall have a boat ride on Kazinga Channel. Queen Elizabeth boasts one of the highest bio diversity ratings of any game park, from the open Savannah to Rain Forest, dense Papyrus Swamps and Crater Lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward.

Day 6: Game Drive in Ishasha, Drive to Bwindi
Depart for Bwindi National park in the morning on your way; you will have a chance to have a game drive in Ishasha Sector where the tree climbing lions are found, then continue to the home of the mountain Gorillas. Of Uganda’s forested parks, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known for gorilla Tracking, but it also provides refuge to elephants, chimpanzees, monkeys and various small antelopes, as well as 23 bird species restricted to the Albertine.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking
This morning you will get up early and go for the gorilla trekking. Trekking the Mountain Gorilla is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. The trek will take between 2 and 6 hours, but is well worth the effort. You will be led by an experienced ranger who will tell you interesting facts about flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the Gorillas. As an alternative to gorilla trekking, there are several walks that can take you. The Mubwindi Swamp Trail takes about 3 hours and goes through parts of the park where there are elephants. Another 6-hour hike leads up to the peak in Rwamunyoni to 2.607m.

Day 8: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park
Today, drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Even at the entrance to the park you can watch impalas and zebras. You will have a game drive as you enter the park. The Lake Mburo National Park forms a mosaic-like habitat with rocks, dry slopes, open and wooded savannas, forests, and swamps increases. This diversity of habitats has the diversity of bird life with 313 bird species recorded in the park, including flame head Barbet, Long-tailed Zitting Cisticola (Tabora), African Bins Rail, Collared Barbet, binding Bush singer among others.

Day 9: Nature Walk, Game Drive
You will get up early morning for a guided nature walk, return to the hotel for a hearty breakfast. After lunch you will have a boatride on Lake Mburo. Later enjoy an evening game drive in the National Park. You may choose to have an optional horse ride at your leisure.

Day 10: Drive to Entebbe
After breakfast, you will start your journey back to Entebbe. Cross the equator and have time to take photos at the equator. Buy a few souvenirs and have a quick picnic lunch. Afterwards you will drive to the Airport.
